We were delighted with Achnacarry and left feeling refreshed after staying one week. The cottage is very comfortable and its position shlightly above the Dornoch Firth was fantastic, giving panoramic views to enjoy. Although we restricted our local trips, Dornoch itself is really nice and the Cathedral well woth a visit. As an ex golfer I thought the choice of local courses (not forgetting Royal Dornoch) offers good opportunities. The nearby towns all have their own "flavour" and the floral displays in each, showed a pride the local community and authorities have in their hometowns. Summary is very good either for an active or more passive break.
Better than expected

Stayed at the cottage with wife abd two grandchildren aged 11 and 14. Very comfortable accommodation with everything you could need. However, it would benefit from the provision of a freezer as wasted a few frozen items purchased on route to the cottage. Nice big garden with a flagged golf hole to do a bit of chip and putt. Close to town and beaches. It was good to have a small welcome gift of biscuits and a bottle of wine...thank you. Overall, a really relaxed stay and would book again.
Delightful place to shelter from the storm

Needing accommodation in the area at short notice, relieved to find Achnacarry had availability. It was excellent, peaceful, and felt like home.

From the big windows overlooking the firth you can sit and watch .... seals, ospreys fishing, deer, tawny owls, barn owls, buzzards... Numerous birds The house is situated on a quiet road and is far enough away from civilisation for those who value peace and quiet but is a short drive/ bike ride from excellent local shops, cafes etc. Only complaint is the agonisingly slow wifi ( was off for most of the time we were there - BT supposed to be upgrading) We found a faster connection at the visitor centre in Dornoch for checking weather Slightly pricey but worth it for the views

We really enjoyed our stay at Achnacarry cottage, which is a comfortable, well maintained bungalow with a good sized garden overlooking the Dornoch Firth. There is a way-marked forest trail just a few hundred metres from the door, and Dornoch itself is a delightful small seaside town a very short drive ( about 1 mile) down the road.

The views make this a wonderful place for a peaceful break - we sat in the seats on the porch until dark every day watching wildlife - deer in the garden, various birds including an osprey fishing in the firth. Good location - near enough to shops etc if you need them but far away to escape it all. Roads quiet for cycling and handy for a range of golf courses. Homely atmosphere - obviously a much loved house but pity that there is no fire. It was warm enough but a wood burning stove would have made it cosier in the evening. Spent a lovely week in the autumn sun and will certainly go back soon.

The cottage is more than just a holiday home, it is a house one can live in the whole year round. It is excellently equipped and provides ample space for 3-4 persons. We entered a very clean, comfortable and well looked-after house and felt at home immediately. The views from the porch are truly breathtaking. The big garden is home to some beautiful birds, we even saw peacocks and some deer who came in for breakfast one morning! The colours of the sea and the sky are constantly changing and one can sit for hours gazing out at the unique view. Although the town of Dornoch can be reached on foot, via the beach or along the country road, a car is probably essential for transpoerting shopping and/or presents bought in the lovely shops there. We would recommend the cottage to anyone looking for peace and quiet and an excellent base to explore the Highlands. We'll be back!

Our stay in Achnacarry Cottage was just what we needed. The cottage was warm, clean and had everything we needed in a lovely location and close to Dornoch for all our shopping needs and of course the Hogmany celebrations.

We enjoyed our week in the cottage as it gave us a really good break. It was quiet and we had a lovely view over the sea. We felt we could "tank up" after travelling and we never even bothered going out for an evening meal but preferred to cook "at home" - much cosier! Dornoch is a lovely little village and suited us both fine. A good place to stay for a bit of peace and quiet.
Achnacarry is set in a tranquil location and is just 2 miles to the centre of Dornoch. There are a choice of endless beaches and dune land as well as Loch Fleet Nature Reserve, an area rich in bird and wildlife.
