Submitted on 16/10/2017 by Neil from Ulverston

Despite it being October the Black Isle maintained its reputation for good weather. It only rained overnight, day time temperatures were above the norm and the sun shone on the hay bales. Location is good; you can go coastal to Nairn and Fort George; you can go cross country to Ullapool; you can go inland to the Falls of Shin or you can stay put at the cottage watching the birds and red squirrels. That's it. Good weather, good location, good accommodation, what more can you want? Good hosts? Danny and Annette and Maisie were ideal hosts.

Over the years we have stayed in a lot of self catering properties and Croabhan Cottage is one of the best. Danny and Annette are fantastic hosts. The setting is beautiful and we loved watching the birds and the squirrels at the feeders while we were having our meals. The cottage is scrupulously clean and comfortable and has all you need for your holiday. We had a fantastic time exploring the area and I am sure we will return in the future.

From first impressions to packing up to go we were very impressed with Craobhan Cottage. First class accommodation with lots of lovely little extras:- flowers, wine, biscuits and even some fresh milk in the fridge. The cottage is very well laid out and finished to a very high standard. Our host could not have been more welcoming and helpful, even popping in to let me know there was a lovely sunset developing if we wanted pictures. Stunning views, lots of birds, rabbits & even a red squirrel visiting the garden. Centrally located, only an hour or so from Torridon and all the hills you wanted to climb or 10 mins from Inverness if you wanted the city life, but a very quiet, secluded location.

For the third successive year, we stayed at Craobhan Cottage during the October school holidays. The weather was dry and sunny for most of the week and the scenery stunning. Our hosts, Danny and Annette, were as friendly and welcoming as ever: available if we needed them, but otherwise unobtrusive. The cottage is clean and tidy, possesses all of the amenities modern life demands, accommodates 4 persons readily and enjoys great views over the Cromarty Firth to Dingwall and Alness. It is situated sufficiently far out of the village of Culbokie to offer a degree of seclusion, if desired, but close enough to allow easy access to the amenities offered by Dingwall and Inverness. We had a wonderful, restful week's holiday and intend returning next year.

My wife and I have just enjoyed the most relaxing stay at Craobhan Cottage. It is very clear that Danny and Annette have gone into every detail to make any visit to Craobhan Cottage a most enjoyable experience. The cottage is the perfect base for exploring to the North, West and East. Danny provided us with possible routes to the West in which we enjoyed spectacular scenery (and even seem some deer !). Gael Holiday Homes (who we rented Craobhan Cottage through) were extremely attentive throughout, including a courtesy call a couple of days prior to our holiday to ensure that all was well. Craobhan Cottage is an extension to the owners' house but you don't impinge on each other as the outlook from the cottage is towards a small woodland where there are bird feeders to ensure constant action outside the kitchen window. The cottage is extremely well equipped and the owners have thought of everything. The 'welcome pack' was really generous and even included hot chocolate and sweets for our kids. We couldn't recommend this cottage highly enough.

We've been doing self-catering holidays for about 12 years now. In this time we have stayed in approx. 30 different cottages from Somerset and Norfolk in the south to Isle of Lewis and The Black Isle in the North, and lots of places in between. CRAOBHAN COTTAGE is SECOND TO NONE, the cottage itself is Perfection and shows how self-catering should be done but until you've sampled the Hospitality of Danny and Annette you just don't know how good an experience this cottage is. We've stayed here twice (July 2014 and April 2015) and will be going back soon. Whatever you want to do from bird watching or looking for Dolphins in the Moray Firth to shopping in Inverness or Dingwall. Danny and Annette will give you any information you need.

There are no words that can adequately describe how amazing this place is. The owners of Craobhan Cottage take pride in the service and accommodation they provide. The cottage is decked out with everything you need, and has a real homely feel. The kitchen is fully stocked with every possible utensil you would need to make home style dishes during your stay. I was pleasantly surprised when Annette refreshed the towels and bedding every few days, it is more than most hotels. Danny and Annette were extremely friendly and invited us into their home to celebrate the New Year with them. They were the best hosts you could ever dream of. They provided us with information on hiking trails and directions for different activities we were interested in doing whilst on our holiday. And the personal touches of flowers on the kitchen table, a bottle of wine, and some Turkey kitchen foil (we were there over Christmas) were extremely thoughtful. It really did feel like a home. I would definitely return to Craobhan Cottage for another stay.

The Cottage was very well appointed, clean and possessed excellent amenities. It enjoys an attractive semi-rural setting, offering great views of Ben Wyvis and the Cromarty Firth. Whilst it is located some 15 miles north of Inverness and 6 miles from Dingwall, we found its semi-rural location to be no disadvantage to touring the Inverness area, the Black Isle and further afield. Indeed, it was very relaxing and a positive boon for our 9 years old son, who enjoyed kicking a ball about in the spacious garden and taking the owners' dogs walks in the adjoining woodland. The owners, Danny and Annette, were very hospitable and friendly. We hope to be fortunate enough to stay at Craobhan Cottage next year.

What can we say. This is our second time at the cottage and it was as good this year as it was last year. Danny and Annette are just the best hosts and are so welcoming. Maisie and Molly (black labradors) greeted us with such enthusiasm too. The cottage is everything you could possible want and more. There is always welcoming flowers, and such a thoughtful welcome pack (wine, milk, biscuits, tea and coffee). The cottage is so well equipped and warm. If it was mine I would want to keep the little piece of heaven all to myself but thank god Danny and Annette don't think like that. We came and went at all sorts of times and it just didn't bother our brilliant hosts at all. They even found room for our bikes and rather large bike rack (great biking around the area Red Rock at Larnie only a short drive away. Also Glenlivet and Wolftrax at Laggan all accessible from the cottage after a short drive). The weather was a little challenging for a few days with a sea Haar and washing was a challenge to get dry but they even helped us out with this by lending us their tumble drier. I think this is the most desirable cottage with fantastic hosts. We have stayed in many places but this is just the best one ever. See you both again soon.
