  • Home from home for a great family holiday

The property was perfect for our family holiday, the different spaces, comfortably furnished, (not too precious) allowed our family all the room we needed. The garden was excellent, accessible and full of interest. A separate well equipped laundry room was ideal as we were preparing to attend a wedding. The location was brilliant, there was too much to do for all ages from our doorstep. Minor hitch, dishwasher tablets did not dissolve in the machine and dinner plates too large to go into the dishwasher.

Thank you for your lovely review. A previous guest had lowered the height of the top shelf. This has now been put back and the plates fit. Thank you for drawing it to our attention.

A very spacious and well appointed house. Nice garden(s) and perfect location. We had two families in our party, a total of 4 adults and three children, and the property was pretty much ideal. It was roomy, the beds were very comfy, accommodation flexible and the the amenities (including washing machine, tumble drier and dish washer) were excellent. The pictures on the website didn't do it justice! Highly recommended and would happily stay there again.

Enjoyed our third stay in this property. The house is comfortable, well equipped and cosy. The location is just right between beach and shops. New Windows have been installed since last year . Hope to book again for next year.

  • 2nd stay in The Glen

this was our second stay at The Glen in Dornoch and we choose here again because of the excellent location. The stay however was not as comfortable as our first experience for 3 main reasons; The double bed needs replacing. It's raised in the centre and falls to sides making it very uncomfortable to get a decent night sleep. It was so bad we needed to bring a single bed mattress from downstairs to the upstairs room. The drains in the downstairs shower / loo had a horrendous odour for the whole week. We needed to purchase two bottles of bleach just to try and reduce the odour which I began to believe were possibly sewer fumes. The velux in the 2nd upstairs bedroom would not close. Given the close proximity to the coast and the weather was not the best this resulted in a cold and loud draught. Not taking the above issues into consideration the property is ideal for those looking for a family, golfing or fishing holiday. We will definitely return to Dornoch as we have relations nearby however will likely seek alternative accommodation due to the above issues.

We were very sorry to read your review and upset that you did not give us a chance to put things right while you were there. All our contact numbers are on your confirmation and in the house information folder. We have a local housekeeper and caretaker who know the house very well and they could have popped in without inconveniencing you. We have checked the bed frame and mattress and we think that it was the down topper which you found unsuitable. This was added for extra comfort , not because there was anything wrong with the mattress. Obviously it did not work for you! Down toppers do tend to compress and look uneven when lain on. Anyway, we have decided to take it off and leave it in the wardrobe so others may use it if they wish. The window catch has been adjusted , it took our joiner 5 minutes. There was some windy weather during your stay so we appreciate that the window not fully latching would be an irritation. Regarding the drains, we have ascertained that the builders at the house across the lane had been re-routing pipes in the road as part of the renovation work . Whilst that has now finished and there is no sign of any odour we understand that this could have have been very unpleasant . Again, had we known we could have at least reassured you that there was nothing wrong with the drains at The Glen. Since your last visit The Glen is in better condition than it has ever been before and we are very sorry that you did not notice the new window frames , new flooring, redecoration and new curtains that we have done since your last visit. We have been letting The Glen to holidaymakers for 12 years and understand the need for high standards. We appreciate your feedback and again apologise that on this occasion we did not meet your expectations. David and Vivien, owners of The Glen.

Spacious, and well equipped property, good central location-quiet and big garden space. Good selection of DVDs and books plus local attractions. No hesitation in recommending this property, would happily stay again.

The Glen is centrally located in Dornoch yet surrounded by gardens and its own drive over the Dornoch burn which gives a secluded feel.
