  • Water problem in haven

Submitted on 13/08/2017 by Yukti from New Delhi

On my recent travel to Inverness, I came across Wildhaven Property on Booking.com and the great reviews prompted me to book my stay there. The owner, Mairi is a charming lady and welcomed us graciously. The big disappointment was the water condition. There was no clean drinking water and we were expected to buy our own. While the tap water in England is clean enough for usage, the property had light brown water diffusing from the shower/kitchen taps. Apart from this we didn't face any problems. My feedback would be that the owners can be a bit more connected with first-time visitors and check on their stay experience on timely basis.

Gael Holiday Homes on behalf of Wildhaven Reply on 15/08/2017
Thank you for your feedback, we are sorry you didn’t enjoy your stay as much as the other guests who have left feedback. The property is in a rural location with a private water supply. Scotland has some great Whisky and this is due to the natural peaty water we have in the Highlands which you can see in the streams has a natural brown tinge. The owners of Wildhaven buy bottled water for every guest and leave this is the kitchen as they did for your stay. So guests also don’t have to travel to the nearest shop as soon as they arrive they also leave some starter provisions. We hope you enjoyed the rest of your time in Scotland and took the opportunity to sample some of our great whisky.

I originally booked this for myself and my girlfriend but things didn't work out with that so instead, I took my parents with me. I was not allowed to stay myself as its only a 2 person cottage but I was allowed to come and go during the day to spend time with my parents. Hosts were very friendly and there were loads of lovely walks in around the area. Also, there was a fantastic restaurant called the steadings not too far away from the cottage. Things to note on was a lot of smoke from burning logs nearby. Also, the track leading up to the cottage is a bit rough so having a bigger car would be beneficial here but not necessary. All, in all, was very happy with the stay and my parents, loved it too!

Very nice, comfortable inside, makes you feel home instantly. The owners are extremely welcoming and really looking forward to help and make your stay perfect

The cottage was ideally located in a peaceful but not isolated location; as a lone female traveller it was reassuring to have Mairi and family next door as it is off the beaten track but you'd hardly know they were there. Mairi was helpful and welcoming without being intrusive. The cottage really was a home from home, having everything you would need for the stay, it was warm and comfortable and the views were lovely. There is plenty to do in the area and you are situated in a great place to get to all the attractions, I can thoroughly recommend a stay there.

We highly recomend it, the place itself has all the comfort you need, the host is very nice and helpful. We will definetely come back and spend more days.

Thanks for the wonderful weekend!

This is a very well appointed cottage in a very picturesque part of Scotland. It feels vey remote when you are there but it is well placed for Inverness and Loch Ness and has views over open farmland. We flew to Inverness and the cottage is an easy drive about 15 minutes or so from the airport. The cottage has everything you need for a holiday. The owner lives next door and was very helpful in telling us about the surrounding area and things to see and places to eat. Starter supplies of bread etc. were also provided. We would certainly stay again and would recommend it as somewhere to stay in Inverness.

The dream of everyone to stay in a cottage house. The decoration was so wonderful and the cleanliness excellent. The view around the house fantastic. Only fields with cows, sheep, hens, ducks, forests and silence. The calmness of the area was a way to rest. First time we found so good hospitality. The first day we arrived late and everything was closed for eating. Mari gave us food to eat. Thank you Mari, you made our vacations better than we expect.

Located a mile up a track with beautiful views and hens, ducks and geese wandering around, this cottage was really comfortable and cosy. Separate living room, kitchen, hall, bedroom and bathroom were all reasonably spacious. Everything we needed was there and the owners lived in the other side of the property. They were very friendly and helpful. The water supply was a little brown from the rains and water pressure low though adequate. This is a great base for Inverness, Loch Nes and the Black Isle. Good pubs were the Snow Goose (near Inverness) and the Dores Inn (Dores), both did good food.

We stayed at Wildhaven Cottage for 2 nights from 18/3/16 to 20/03/16 with our two dogs. Driving up the A9 from Stirling, it was a very pleasant drive taking about 3 hours. We found the cottage easily thanks to the directions provided and some studying of google maps the night before. The cottage itself is beautiful and well equipped for a short or long stay. Mairi gave us a warm welcome and recommended places to visit and eat. We have travelled to many places throughout Scotland and this has definitely been our favourite. This is the best of both worlds as you have the wonderful scenic and breathtaking views and walks of the highland country side and also the beautiful city of Inverness for shopping, dining and nightlife. We visited the Culloden battlefield which was great for walking the dogs and learning about the historic events that took place. We also went further north to the Black Isle which has some of the nicest beaches around. I would recommend this trip for anyone who has dogs and is also interested in enjoying nightlife as the Wildhaven Cottage and Inverness can more than accommodate both.
