Welcome to Achnacarry Cottage, a cosy and homely bungalow situated in a secluded and tranquil spot approximately 2 miles outside the picturesque town of Dornoch, an historic small town on the edge of the Dornoch Firth, a designated National Scenic Area in the Highlands of Scotland.

Its tranquil location, beautiful scenery and mild climate have attracted visitors for decades. Some come to test their golfing skills on Royal Dornoch's world-famous championship course, or to walk and view wildlife in the National Nature Reserve at nearby Loch Fleet. Others simply want to relax and enjoy Dornoch's unhurried way of life.

Dornoch was once the spiritual and administrative capital of Sutherland, today it remains a thriving community. Small in population (under 2,500 inhabitants) but large in hospitality, Dornoch offers visitors and residents a wide range of shops and businesses, five hotels, two golf courses, two schools, a further and higher education college and an award-winning sandy beach. Its fine buildings include the 13th Century cathedral, a bishop's palace (now a hotel), courthouse and old town jail (now a shop). Sandstone cottages and town houses line its peaceful streets and lanes.

Small individual specialist shops offer a range of services and goods alongside several larger high-street stores.

From Achanacarry Cottage, beautiful walks can be taken along the nearby beach, where seals can often be spotted, or in the adjacent Camore Wood, which also hosts a sports trail for the more active.It is the ideal location for those who want to ‘get away from it all’, and for those who want to explore the hidden jewels of the beautiful Highlands.

Nearby attractions, apart from those in Dornoch, include the Glenmorangie Distillery, Bonar Bridge (famous for salmon fishing), the Carnegie Club, the Black Isle and the Moray Firth.

Accommodation & Facilities

Porch / Entry - The porch consists of 3 cane chairs, one armchair and a coffee table. This is where guests can enjoy the breathtaking unspoilt views of the ever-changing Dornoch Firth through the large window panes facing the garden and sea.

Living Room - The living room consists of 2 sofas, an armchair, a coffee table, two small tables, a writing bureau, a sideboard and a television. The fireplace in this room is for decorative purposes only and cannot be used.

Master Bedroom - This bedroom has one double bed, made of pine, a pine wardrobe and dressing table, a night table and lamp and a large mirror.

Second Bedroom - This bedroom consists of 1 standard single bed and a pull out single bed. There is a chest of pine drawers and a built-in wardrobe.

Kitchen - The kitchen consists of a fridge, oven and fan oven, micorwave oven, washing machine, kettle, toaster, and is fully equipped with cutlery, porcelain, etc. Kitchen linen, cloths, etc. are provided.

Bathroom - The bathroom consists of a shower, wash hand basin and toilet. Towels are provided.

Hallway - The hallway connects the living room with the two bedrooms and the bathroom. Here, a set of drawers is available to guests as additional storage space.

Garage / Parking - There is a garage on the premises which houses one car. There is parking space for 2 additional cars

Garden - The house has a very large garden, situated at the back of the property. This slopes down to unused farmland which borders on the Dornoch Firth beach. A small garden at the front of the house runs parallel to the road and leads to the garage and additional parking space.

General - The cottage has oil-fired central heating throughout.

All bed linen and towels are provided.

Electricity and heating is included in the price.

Wi-Fi internet access included - own laptop required.

A welcome pack of washing-up liquid, washing powder, dishwasher tablets, toilet rolls and soap is included.

A 25% deposit is required to confirm a booking with the final balance due 6 weeks prior to arrival.

A refundable security deposit of £50 will be required as part of your final balance payment.

Check in time is any time after 4pm and check out time is 10am.

Location & Directions

By Road - Around an hour north by road from Inverness and about a further ten minutes from Inverness Airport. Heading north from Stirling in central Scotland simply follow the A9 the whole way and Dornoch is only a mile off the main route.

The drive time from Aberdeen Aiport to Dornoch is just over three hours and is just under four hours drive from Edinburgh.

By Air - Inverness Airport is just over an hour from Dornoch and is serviced by British Airways from London and Easyjet from London Luton. Flights from London Gatwick are direct to Inverness and there are several return flights per day.

Coming by car, after you have passed the town of Tain, at the Meikle Ferry Roundabout take the 3rd exit onto the A9 (Thurso, Wick). Cross the Dornoch Firth Bridge and after 1 km turn right at the exit Cuthill. Follow this narrow road for 2.5 kilometres and Achnacarry cottage is on the right hand side.

The cottage was spacious and well-appointed. The views were incredible, and being able to sit in the sun lounge watching the seals on the Firth an absolute joy. We had a very enjoyable stay and can't wait to come back

The accommodation was very clean and comfortable. It felt welcoming and the kitchen was well equipped, bathroom very good and the beds were just right. The views from the cottage were beautiful and we spent many hours sitting out on the porch watching the changing colours in the sky and on the water. Overall we had a lovely stay and would recommend the property to our friends.

Wonderful view of the firth with seals in abundance. The local area provided great walks. There was also an abundance of historical sites. The closeness to Dornoch was also significant as this provided some great shopping opportunities plus some artistic opportunities.

The cottage was warm, clean and had all we needed for our stay. The location was fantastic for views across the firth, walks in Camore Woods and trips into Dornoch and the surrounding areas whilst being secluded and peaceful.

Well situated for a restful stay with lovely view of the sea. It contained everything we needed and was very comfortable. We even preferred to stay in and cook ourselves in the evenings as it was much cosier. Dornoch is very attractive with a great beach for walking, even in the rain.
