Doric House
Doric House
Doric House with its imposing sandstone pillars is situated in the centre of the ancient seaside hamlet of Rosemarkie with it’s Pictish roots and ancient carved stones now displayed at the Groam House Museum in the High street. The hamlet nestles below red sand stone cliffs and rolling hills which lead to a beautiful sandy beach, where salmon are regularly netted. The south beach extends to a peninsula and lighthouse known as Chanonry Point, famous for bottle nose dolphins, which feed and play in the shallows of the Moray Firth. The peninsula hosts a unique golf course leading to the twin hamlet of Fortrose. To the north the beach leads past the deeply wooded and mythical Fairy Glen, through which runs the Markie Burn, hosting deep pools, waterfalls and is a haven for wildlife.
The beach continues north along the Black Isle with many paths and cliff walks toward the village of Cromarty.

We've had a brilliant fortnight exploring this wonderful part of the country. Doric House is a very comfortable base to return to each evening - although the recliners are perhaps a little too comfortable!!
Dolphins at Chanonry Point have been on fine form and may have seen the fairies at The Glen... or could have been the beer!
