Mara Cottage

Mara Cottage

Mara Cottage is a lovely traditional fishing cottage which has been lovingly upgraded without losing any of its character and charm.

Situated in the small fishing village of Hilton of Cadboll it offers a pleasant retreat within a stunning landscape. The village is one of three coastal villages which include Balintore and Shandwick and are collectively known as the Seaboard villages.

Mara Cottage is situated on the eastern shore of the beautiful Moray Firth and enjoys one of the most temperate climates in Scotland. The cottage enjoys spectacular views across the firth with regular sightings of the Moray Firth dolphins from the cottage as they often like to swim close to the shore.

The surrounding area has beautiful coastal walks and interesting geological features such as an ancient raised beach which can be accessed at the end of the village. The Moray Coast also offers a variety of pictish stones situated in both Hilton of Cadboll and Shandwick bay.

The nearby village of Portmahomack has an award winning Pictish Visitor Centre. Shandwick offers an award winning Blue Flag beach which is perfect for a family picnic.

There is a good resturant, village inn, harbour, post office and local shops all within 10 minutes walk of the cottage.

Mara Cottage is a welcoming, charming cottage in a location which offers the best of both worlds - relaxation and chill out time with a selection of books and games or a base to explore the northern highlands. There is an enclosed garden to both the front and back of Mara Cottage which is suitable for children.

The historic burghs of Tain and Dornoch are within easy reach of Mara Cottage - both are charming and offer a variety of historic sights which are well worth a visiit. The Highland Capital of Inverness is a thirty minute car journey or alternately catch the train from Fearn Station which is 10 mintes from Mara Cottage.

It was exactly as we expected from the online pictures, only better thanks to the amazing sea views from the front windows, fabulous sea air, charming setting, comfortable beds and very well equipped kitchen etc. With a lovely harbour down the road, a friendly local shop and post office that seemed to be open all hours, and a beautiful beach, as well as a small play park for younger children, we felt like we had a great welcome and settled in immediately. An extremely relaxing holiday and one we would definitely do again. Thanks so much.

An excellent old fisherman's cottage with wonderful sea views and set in an excellent area for all aspects of early history, scenery, wildlife and bird watching and of course golf. A well appointed cottage with and excellently modernised kitchen, bathroom and downstairs w.c. A comfortable cottage and would be happy to return in the future.
