The Mill House, Shoremill self catering holiday home close to Cromarty, Ross & Cromarty in the Scottish HighlandsThe Mill House, formerly known as Dunmillen is a former water mill, built in 1784 and extended to its present size in 1849. Originally it was a two storey sandstone building with an all iron wheel in the western gable-end and a kiln occupying the eastern half of the lower floor. The mill ceased working in the early 1900's and is thought to have been converted to this luxury dwelling in the 1970's. Situated within the hamlet of Shoremill on the northern shores of the Black Isle, the mill retains many original features, such as original exposed interior stonework (it even has large ammonites in the stonework), cast iron mill door to the kitchen and original mill wheel. |
With panoramic views across the Cromarty Firth the Mill House is an ideal base place to relax and take in the scenery or for day trips around the Highlands. Loch Ness and the legendary monster is only 40 minutes drive away, and the spectacular scenery of the west coast is less than 2 hours journey. Dolphin cruises, pony trekking, indoor leisure centre, 18 hole golf course, tennis courts, bowling green, fishing and sailing are all within 7 miles/12km of the house.

Other information
Sorry we are unable to accommodate pets. The Mill House is warmed throughout by oil fired central heating. We have some resident wildlife - 'Freddy' as we call him is the pheasant who resides in the garden. We can often see him sitting just outside the kitchen window in the neighbours' conifers around 4.00pm in the afternoon. We also have pine martins and they can sometimes visit the house and currently we have a pair of swans which have taken up residence in the bay at the front of the house. Red deer are always in the top field so keep a look out if you're out walking. The sea is too shallow for dolphins here but there are plenty of seals and swans. For dolphins wander to South Sutar, along in Cromarty or visit the peninsular by the Rosemarkie golf club - a perfect and well known dolphin watch spot. The climate here is one of the sunniest and driest in Scotland and the house is generally very warm. The Garden is approximately 1/4 acre of land mostly laid to lawns. Currently in the process of building seating areas which will enable everyone to take advantage of the superb views whilst enjoying eating and drinking 'al-fresco'
All bed linen, towels, electricity and heating oil are included in the price. The holiday home is stocked with a starter supply of washing up liquid, dishwasher tablets (if applicable), toilet rolls and other kitchen and bathroom supplies. A deposit of 25% of the total tariff is requested in advance. The balance is payable 12 weeks prior to the commencement of your holiday (or by arrangement for short notice bookings). Bookings are from Saturday 4pm to Saturday 10am. No smoking is permitted within the holiday home. A refundable good housekeeping deposit of £200 will be required as part of your final balance payment. This will be refunded in full within 10 days of the end of your stay subject to there being no claim on it. Claims are usually for damages but can also be for additional cleaning being required over and above that reasonably expected. Please see the terms and conditions for further details. |
