Self Catering on the Isle of Skye & the West Coast of Scotland

Kyle of Lochalsh and Plockton are pretty towns of whitewashed buildings close to Loch Carron. Kyle of Lochalsh is the shopping and transport centre for the area, and last stop on the scenic train trip from Inverness.

The Isle of Skye, Scotland’s largest and most romantic island, lies just off the mainland. Cross to Skye on the road bridge, or take a ferry from Mallaig or Glenelg.

Gairloch is a cluster of picturesque villages and hamlets on the shore of Loch Gairloch. Gorgeous sandy beaches and magnificent views. Close to Inverewe Gardens.

The whole area attracts walkers and climbers of all ages and abilities and there many things to see and do. Come for gentle strolls along the seashore, long-distance treks in the hills and mountains, or challenging climbs in the Black Cuillins of Skye.

There is also plenty of choice if you prefer more leisurely activities.  Take a harbour cruise to see porpoises, whales, seals, dolphins and a huge variety of seabirds. Explore art galleries, potteries and craft workshops. Shop for locally made souvenirs, books, music, knitwear and tweeds. Enjoy a delicious meal in one of the many restaurants serving regional specialties.

On Skye you can visit Dunvegan Castle, the ancestral home of the MacLeods, or Armadale Castle, the site of the Clan Donald Centre. And don’t miss the Skye Museum of Island Life, Talisker Distillery and the otter sanctuary on Eilean Bàn.
